I am reading a wonderful book called Seed to Seed, The Secret Life of Plants by Nicholas Harberd (Bloomsbury Press, 2006). If you know it, I would like to hear your opinion of it.
I especially want to address Harberd's sharing of his insights into the culture of science. That is, his evocation of the ways in which scientific ideas and hypotheses are developed, of how even the most "difficult" science fits into daily life, of the stresses of publication and competition, and so forth.
I also like Harberd's blending of scientific explanation and his observations of his own daily life. I think it is a wonderful way of instructing the reader while keeping his or her interest with a more "novelistic" approach. He makes the man, the scientist, come alive, and this doesn't fail to put life into his difficult and abstract ideas. Lovely!
Let me know what you think! And come back soon to read the review.
