» Katrien Vander Straeten - Canadian Thanksgiving

In response to Canadian Thanksgiving posted by DevorahStone:

Hi Devorah,

thank you for your input! It gives me a chance to flesh out my position.

I must admit, I am a bit of a stickler for historical roots and believe in the value of historical redundancy of things. For instance, I would hate it if people would decide to start spelling English phonetically: so much of the etymology of the words would be lost!

Well, in any case, I do acknowledge that Frobisher gave thanks. Of course, who wouldn't, after such a grueling sea voyage! And I do admire him as an explorer.

I would just like to reserve Thanksgiving with a capital T for a special kind of thanksgiving. If you want, you can read some of my more personal reasons for that in my blog entry http://customsholidays.suite101.com/blog...

Thanks again for sharing!
Katrien
